Holden Beach runs on a semi-diurnal tide cycle — two high tides and two low tides roughly every 24 hours, each about 6 hours apart. Low tide is when the beach is at its widest, exposing packed sand that’s easiest for walking, biking and shell hunting, especially around the groins and inlet ends of the island.
